Bella's first child William Asher Cobban was born out of wedlock in 1914, 3 days after her 16th birthday. The father was a William Asher Milne, aged 18. It is from this relationship my line in the family tree emerges. A closer look at the Asher branch can be found following the Asher line from the Overview Page. (still under construction)
William is a mystery to the family and very little is known of him.

Some time between having her Son William in 1914 and 1919, Bella had a relationship with Edgar Leperriere. Together they had a daughter Violette Leperriere Cobban in 1919. The details on Edgar are few, except he was a boiler maker and was listed on their daughter Violette's wedding certificate (1937) as deceased.

1920
By 1920 Bella had her third child, Ian Cobban (October 23 ) with James Bagrie. By December 1920, Bella had applied to the Sheriff Court to have James Bagrie recognised as the father of Ian Cobban. As shown below, James Bagrie left Huntly to an unknown location.

Bella's third child, Ian Cobban was killed in action on March 7 1944. Ian was a Corporal in the Gordon Highlanders 6th Battalion (service number 2877718). The Gordon Highlanders were involved in the evacuations of Dunkirk in 1940. The 6th Battalion marched about 145 miles (about 230km) by foot over a two week period in May as part of the retreat. Ian was also involved in the landings at Anzio on 22nd Jan 1944. His battalion advanced 15 miles inland and on the 3rd February, withstanding a major attack by the Germans. Three companies of the battalion were overwhelmed, suffering very heavy casualties. B Company continued to fight alongside other units on the Anzio Line for three months. Ian is buried at the Beach Head Cemetery, Anzio, Italy (Grave VI. F. 12.) He was married to Donella and together they had a child named Ian.

Bella married William Mann in the summer of 1923. By December 1930, William left Bella. News of the desertion made the Aberdeen Journal in 1931. Bella would be granted a divorce on June 10 1944.

1945
At the age of 47, Bella marries William Niven. She appears to have found some stability with the men in her life as she remains with William until her death on June 25 1966. The letter written to Mary Middleton (below) indicated that her "second attempt at happiness ... turned out swell".

Bella died in 1966 at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. She is buried with William in the Huntly cemetery.
